Hello all guests and members that dont want to sign in,
I thought I would make this post evident and very pointed(least in beginning). The information for those not of the forums(or that are not trusted in the forums) is quite locked down and limited. I did this as I am entering major coding stages and like. When I have a prototype done(working on moving at this time) I will be in my first pre-release stage. I have 11 testing schedules planned for the games themselves. 12 if you count the prototyping stage. That being stated, it will be known when I enter and exit each stage by all... BUT what I do within and the Developer Diaries that describe each step and hopefully fun feature, will be locked down to guests.
That being said, I do plan on giving my testers some leway in getting hype up for the games, if they want to... BUT it will be contained factors that will be released only to them(IE not telling them here incase they change.). I though will state that I do plan on having "open" prototyping testers, but after that, it is based on the activity and like that the people do while in each testing schedule. IF not part of the initial testing schedules, people can still join per fee and NDA. That being stated, the first prototype will have nothing really considerable to the games themselves.
My first actual prototype of the games themselves will be sent to a select few as a text game. From that I will develop the games themselves. The prototype that will be open sourced per say(as I will make it where it requires an IDE and compiler just like the other prototype) will have nothing to do with the games that I am creating. I plan on putting a small text based GSG in this forum that is maybe 500kb of data(that is the file that will be needing to be uploaded into a compiler/IDE to play). The other game, the true prototype will hopefully contain over 1.5 mb of data including not only text but photos and windows that pop up.
I do hope you all understand that I am not trying to single people out when I make this announcement, but rather to inform you all of that I do plan on being transparent to a degree. I have already been far more forth coming with shortcomings and the like that I have had as a single developer than any other developer I have seen. Now, that being stated, In the next six months; I plan and hope to have both prototypes done, the main series prototype well on way to alpha stage with some tinkering here and there to make a map and like... That may take longer than planned though lol. Those that will receive the "true" prototype will be receiving an email beforehand asking if they still want to take part.
I am looking for at this time only 5 individuals to be part of that initial team of testers, They MUST be members of this forum... Active after prototyping test canidate is sent to them, willing to sign an NDA(making it USA only at this time and over 18){unless I email it to you and you scan and send it back to me for my records[not sure how many would be willing to do all that for a prototype stage but it is a garrenteed spot in all other testing schedules]}I know that is alot to try to figure out what I was saying, kinda a few sentences within each other, apologize, and other critrea that will be discussed at another time.
Quite honestly though, I dont see alot of interest being shown in the games and dont see myself making any profit off sales. I know that sounds pestimestic of myself and my game making skills. I though am being completely honest with you all. I dont expect or really want a profit from the sales, I am doing this out of wanting a much more fun and interesting game that is in a very niche/neglected time period of time. Quite honestly, I expect the testers to say that they dont find it fun and rage quit on me... I am sitting here, just thinking about the first person that actually tries to understand what it will be from the first alpha stage.... and laughing as that will be the most basic of the gameplay that anyone will see, and it maybe too much for people to handle. Yes I know that sounds egotistical and totally irrelevent, but in the end, I am not making the games for you all as much as I am for myself. WHOA a developer saying that he is making his games for hisself instead of the customers... OMG what has happened.
To answer that, Lets go into my past with just these projects. I have been told that the games are too complex, complicated, too hard to code, rather unenjoyable(before RP was done and according to butterballbill it was fun), etc. I am not stating these things for pity but rather for understanding of IF I dont make the games for myself, how can I expect you all to have fun with them? Honestly I am not working for you all(YET if I ever do through you all buying the games) so I really dont have to answer to you about my vision of the games or direction I take them. I could state one day that it is feature complete and a tester bring up an idea for the game, and lo an behold the game goes back into alpha stage due to that one major feature. I am not saying that what I am doing will be easy or right at the beginning, but I am stating that I am making the games for my amusement first... YOU all second. Not offense, but I have not received a contract or payments for the games at this time(20 bucks to a company that may or maynot exist in the next few years not withstanding). Even at that, that amount that I stated, isnt even enough to pay for my basic needs as a human being... MUCH less anything else that I would need to make the games, books/internet/food/water/etc. So lets figure that out shall we??? 20 bucks just out of 3 years, 20/12/30/8 is far less than a cent a day.
I am being blunt about all this, as I have received in the past hostile and very very un-nessessary comments on my progression. So, I ask you, DO I truthfully work for you all??? Do you pay for my food, housing, etc through a paycheck a week? Should I really be so open with you all as I am thinking about these points?
I apologize for that bit of a rant, but useful information for you all. I had to think of things in that manner of late. WHO am I really making the games for, and who do I truthfully owe information to? Yes I have people assisting with the research and I do try to keep them in the loop, but honestly I plan on paying them back in little ways for their work and assistance. I have multiple people that say they will help do this and that, but request to see my design documents or such. Sorry, those to me are propieritary and not for public consumption. IF I had a dime each time someone demands that they see my design documents, I would have 5x the power ball amount at the time of this post.
I know this post was a bit big, and that hardly any of you all will read it. Just know, this is the course of action that is being taken from now on... IF you are not active/contributing in major ways, you will be an outsider to the process. I am honestly tired of seeing my words used for other peoples whims. I am quite done with the autonomy of the internet crap that is thrown about. PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE no matter what. Stop thinking that the internet gives you a right to be inhumane to others.(not just taking in defense of myself here).
Thank you if you read this in completeness, and I hope I didnt offend anyone with this post. I have alot to learn yet about public relations and like, but I am slowly learning that being as open as I was is not as good as it first seemed. Have a wonderful day/night and hope to see you all join/active on the forums here.
Thank you,
Drew
